I'm the Queen of Procrastination, as my husband will tell you. If something needs to be done by the end of the month, I will wait until it is the end of the month, and do it the day before. This includes buying and wrapping presents, washing dishes and general cleaning of the house... and taxes. Oh taxes, how you are my frenemy! I enjoy doing taxes... it's quite easy to do, especially with all the various tax software that you can choose from. Doing my taxes on my own, makes me feel like I can sort of do Math (something I've never been very good at). You might have guessed by now, that we've waited until the end of the month to complete our taxes... officially done and sent! Yippee?? Another year done... decades more to go of filing taxes (or at least, I hope I live for a few more decades!).
I'm in a shrugging mood. Dishes done? Small yay. Laundry done? Meh, okay. Taxes done? Okay, now we wait for next year again. What I really need is a thrilling, unusual accomplishment. Putting your head inside the head of a lion?? WOW, now that is super-cool!
Life is not dull, though in the frodowm-household. There are thrills and joys here, but not the same type of thrills and joys that my younger-single-no-family-self would have dreamed about. "OMG, the toddler is WALKING", does not have the same ring as "OMG, I'm spelunking in a cave in Hawaii!" This is the path that I've chosen though, and I have zero regrets. A path with a husband and two kids, living the suburban day-to-day life with a mortgage and minimal spending power.
How strange it seems, to find accomplishment in being able to file your own taxes, though. Menial, dull, and satisfying. Alas, that's the way of life!

Weekend Re-Cap
Friday Night.
Both, Twin and I came up empty-handed during our sister-shopping trip. But we had fun, and we both had a night out away from the kiddos.
Saturday.
I took Little B with me to the mall, to run some errands, and to shop again, with the hopes of finding a dress for a daytime wedding, and purchasing a few t-shirts for Little B. Errands were completed, and shopping trip was a success.
Thanks to Sears Days, and a lot of patience from myself, and some coaxing and bribery for Little B, I walked out of the store with two dresses costing me just under $101 (taxes included). I also purchased two long-sleeved t-shirts for B at Old Navy at sale prices. Yay!
Sunday.
Both kids are sick, running fevers, and have very little appetite. It's 3pm and I'm still in my pajamas, and not because I'm too lazy to get out of them, it's because I've been busy taking care of a sick toddler and baby. Today is just one of those awful busy days where I just feel lucky to be able to scarf down some instant noodles at 1pm for lunch. Luckily, Husband is here to help out too, but unfortunately he's been running around doing errands today, and has had barely any time to himself at all, too. Our main concern, though, is that the kids stay hydrated and rested, and comfortable.

Solo Time
If I didn't have any solo time, I'd go nuts - some time to mentally (or physically) to unwind. However, the time I have to physically have alone time is very limited. Leaving the house to the kids and husband, is, at most times, not an option. Therefore, my alone times involve catching a few moments behind a locked door, hiding in a closet (and yes I've done this a few times), and many times just focusing on the computer screen while Little B is fixated on an activity and Baby N is napping.
Wait... Hiding in a closet??? Yes, I have a tendency to hide in the closet. I don't do this often, but I do it when I can't catch any breaks, and when I'm about to break, and only for 2 or 3 minutes at the most. Little B always finds me anyway. When we are all at home, Little B is my sidekick - my constant sidekick. When I'm not in sight, she comes looking for me. Mom, where are you? Are you here? Are you here Mommy? I can't find you! Where are you? Are you here? No?? Are you here?? Where are you Mommy?? Moooommy?!!! And moments later. Moooommmy!! I FOUND YOU!!!! And then... Can I hide now Mommy? You see? It's a fun game for Little B, and a bit of a reprieve for me. Hide and seek with a toddler is actually fun. All hiding spots, no matter how obvious are funny places, to Little B. I could be a giant lump under a blanket, and Little B would be giggling away at my hiding spot. The closet is the best though, because for some reason, it's usually the last place she checks.
In any case, this week, we didn't play Hide and Seek. This week I actually got some REAL Solo-Time! I was sooo happy and grateful to the Husband.
The first solo time of the week was the library. Earlier this week I visited the library, on my own, in the evening. I didn't spend much time there, possibly only 15 minutes inside, but it was 15 minutes of quiet and full immersion into something else, other than my own children. The drive to and from the library added about another 15 minutes. That's 30 minutes of me-time. I really enjoyed it, and wished to stay in the library longer, only that would not be fair to Husband. I was only picking up a few books, and the kiddo's bedtimes were nearing.
My second solo-time of the week was last night. I met a friend for tea/coffee at a Starbucks after the kids were in bed. I was out for about 1.5 hours, chit-chatting and catching up. I had a very nice time, socializing, outside of my family unit, and worried less about the kids at home (with the husband) since I knew that the kids were (or should have been) sound asleep. When I returned home, I did find, in fact, that the kids stayed asleep and did not wake while I was gone.
My next solo-time will be tonight. Shopping with my Twin. What are we looking for? Dresses for a daytime wedding. The most recent daytime dresses that I've worn, for weddings, were maternity dresses. I'm now back to my pre-pregnant weight, so I won't be able to wear my maternity dresses anymore. Time to shop, and time to update my wardrobe! We are also on the hunt for kiddie clothes, and whatever good deals we can find. I'm very excited. My Twin and I have not shopped together, without kids or husbands, in an extremely long time - for at least 3.5 years!! Yikes!! We CAN annoy each other though, so I hope that doesn't happen, and that we have a fun time shopping-sans-family!
That is a LOT of solo-time this week, and I am very grateful. Hubby gets solo-time too, though. He gets movie-nights, and Breaking Bad nights. Both of us are now getting to be a lot more comfortable, and being more relaxed about allowing each other more "me" time, since now Baby N is no longer a newborn, and is much easier to handle.

Music Class(es) Follow-Up
Day One:
As expected, Little B's first music class resulted in tears when the parents left the room. The quivering lip and whine turned full-force into a wail as I left the room and waved goodbye, with a happy smile on my face. Teacher Sherry picked up Little B and comforted her. The door shut, as she was still wailing, and I gave out a laugh and sigh.
"Oh she'll get over it" one of the parents sympathized with me.
Still grinning, "Oh I expected this. I know she'll be fine!"
And with that, I plunked myself onto the nearest comfy chair and took out my book... Austenland by Shannon Hale. It was quite the enjoyable read. Light-hearted, funny... not as much sarcasm as I hoped for, but it was a nice read to pass the 40-ish minutes or so.
Husband was with me, as was Little N. Hubby took Little N for a nice walk in the warmish sun.
40-ish minutes pass, and the kids come "screaming" out of the room, yelling "BOOO!" to all the parents waiting outside. Oh no! I forgot the time, I thought, as I scrambled up to reach the door before Little B noticed that I wasn't eagerly waiting for her.
"Moooommy! I missed you!" She comes yelling to hug my legs. I am further amused by her.
Inside the classroom the kids and parents, with shoes off, sit on the mats and listen to Teacher Sherry's explanation of what the lesson was, that first day. A little sing-songy back and forth began, with just a few of the kids joining in, and then it was goodbye. Little B clung to me, like I might just abandon her in that classroom again.
Day Two:
Little B was happy, although still a little apprehensive to be going to music class today. There were no tears when it was time for the parents to leave the room.
Today, Husband was at work, and it was now just me and Little N, alone for 40-ish minutes. I walked and pushed the stroller while he stared and kicked his feet in baby-eagerness. There wasn't much to see outside... Another building where other programs were being held, an immaculately kept lawn-bowling field, two maintenance workers who were maintaining the lawn-bowling facility, parking lots, a road... Little N found it all exciting. I was quickly running out of places to walk.
I parked the stroller at the community centre's Tot Lot, unbuckled Little N and held him snugly in my lap. Little N was definitely too little to be playing in a Tot Lot, but at least he and I could breathe some fresh air and look about outside. A choppy conversation began between myself and another mom from the music class. Is your kid in the music class? How old? How old is your other kid? Is this the first time she's taken this class? blah blah KID, blah blah Baby. After many awkward silences and even more awkward conversation, I decided to walk about some more, until "pick-up" time.
This time, I kept an eye on the time, and stood waiting at the door for Little B and the other kids to come pouring out of the classroom. Little B came running out of the room, straight for me, arms out for a big hug. "Mooommy!!"
Parents and kids all piled into the room again, shoes off, sitting on matts. Little B insisted on sitting on my lap, or sitting as close to me as possible. The whining began.
Mommy, I'm hungry. Mommy, I want to go home. Mommy, I'm tired. Can we go? Mommy, it's too loud. Hands over ears the entire time we are sitting. Big sigh from me. Amused look on my face.
All this, while Teacher Sherry was recapping the lesson.
Lesson over. Can I play on the playground???
Oy. Ok Little B. Just for a few minutes.
I expect Lesson 3 to be an even greater improvement, and I hope that the whining will subside by Lesson 4. Let's cross our fingers and hope for the best!

Music Class
Today is Little B's first music class. It's a group class with kids aged 3 to 5 years old, at the local community center. She will get the chance to play with various musical instruments, and sing, etc, and, in Little B's words... "play in a band."
Yep, she said that. I get to play in a band! She is very excited about her class today. I hope she behaves herself, and I hope the class meets her little expectations!!

Waiting for the Wading Pool
Yesterday, we discovered a kiddie wading pool, 2 feet deep at Blue Mountain Park in Coquitlam, BC. We've been wanting to take our toddler swimming, but couldn't agree on whether we would take her to the community centre, or outside pool, and at what depth. This 2 feet deep wading pool is perfect for our 3 year old.
We went for a sight-visit, to scope out the pool and park, and after a little coaxing, Little B decided she wanted to come back in her swim suit, to try out the pool. Before leaving, however, Little B played with the musical playground (yes musical), and she sat on the big-kid swing for a few minutes.
We finished our day with take-out sushi dinner, sitting outside under our tent-gazebo in the cool evening sun. Little B went to bed with thoughts of swimming today.
Unfortunately, this morning, Little B woke up super-cranky and hot. She is running a fever, and is definitely not swimming today. It's been difficult coaxing her to drink liquids, and to eat something, as all she wants to do is lie down.
I've got congee cooking on the stove, and soon I'll have some chinese soup brewing as well. With a bit of acetimenophen, lots of rest and liquids, and some home-made comfort food, I hope Little B's energy will be back tomorrow, if not fairly soon. And perhaps next weekend, she will play in the wading pool!

My Sabotaging Toddler
Little B is officially 3 years old. Hooray for birthdays! She is such a sweetie (most of the time). So giggly and cute, loves to jump and dance, and sing, and generally makes a lot of noise. Yes, noise. She screams a lot, and squeals and yells. And when I tell her to be more quiet and whisper, what does she do? NO!!! AAAHHHHHH!!! Screams and stares at me in the highest pitchiest voice ever. That gets her a time-out in her room. And what does she do in her room?? Bawls her little eyes out, whether they are fake tears, or real, those tragic crying-fests tears my heart out.
I suppose sometimes I do spoil her. I don't like yelling at Little B. It's tough disciplining your toddler child. No is such a tragic word for her. But since Baby N entered our lives, I need to be tougher on Little B.
Situation:
Baby N is napping. Little B is outside Baby's door talking loudly.
Me: Little B, please be quiet. Baby N is napping.
Little B: Can I see? I want to see Baby N. Opens Baby N's door. HI BABY N!!! YOU'RE SO FUNNY!! LOOK HE IS SLEEPING!!!! AAAAHHHH!!!
Baby N: WAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!
Me: Little B, go to your room! I told you to be quiet, and now you've woken Baby N up!!
Both children: WAAAAAHHH!!!
Sometimes my days can be extra exhausting...

The Terrible 3's
Everyone that I've talked to, who has a toddler, says that 2 year olds are well-behaved, and that the "Terrible Two's" title should actually be the "Terrible Threes". I think I agree.
My 2 year old will be turning 3 in a week. For the past few days she's been defying bedtime. As soon as we shut the door with the lights out, after storytime and lullabies, Little B hops out of bed, climbs onto the chair near the lightswitch, switches the light on, and commences to play and read her books, talking to herself, squealing and playing make-believe with her stuffies. Last night, bedtime was supposed to be 8pm. Instead it turned out to be 10pm. I hope we don't have another repeat tonight.
Not all Terrible Toddler things are so terrible though. Some are just plain funny and cute, only I have to suppress my giggles and take the kiddo seriously.
Example 1. If there is something Bethy doesn't want to do, she will cross her arms in disapproval and frown, and say "I don't want to!" (It's quite adorable). It's even more adorable when she does the exact same thing but decides to sit on the floor, to further express her disapproval or refusal.
The bedtime disobedience though is definitely not cute or funny. I think I have more Terrible Three's to experience, but hopefully not too many more?

Toddler/Mommy Exercise Update
Since my last post about exercising, I've only been motivated to exercise for two weekends. Every weekend seems to be filled with activities or errands to do, or I'm just plain tired out by the time Saturday and Sunday rolls around.
Exercise Moment #1: I tried Pilates using the various books that I've accumulated. Hours later my hip ached like it never ached before. So that was the last time I've tried Pilates, 2 weeks ago.
Exercise Moment #2: A limited number of leg lifts and core exercises seem to be somewhat challenging, and as long as I do not push myself, my hip does not ache afterwards.
Toddler Moment #1: Last week Toddler B asked to exercise with me. I asked, "You want to exercise?" Toddler B replies "Yes. I want to do this" (and she waves her arms up and down). "And I want to do this" (and she takes a few steps forward and a few steps back). "And I want to jump too!" (And she jumps up and down). I started laughing out loud. The arm waving, walking up and down, and jumping are all part of my aerobics DVD! She just motivated me to exercise more, because who doesn't want to see a toddler trying to aerobicize! Cutest thing ever!
Toddler Moment #2: This morning, Toddler B asked to exercise again. I asked again, "You want to excercise?" Toddler B replies "Yes, I want to do this!" She lays down on the floor and starts doing leg lifts!!! I have no words except to say that she is Awesome. I am now naming her my Exercise Coach. I believe I will have to start my exercises this week again, just to watch Little B imitate the moves and actions.

Chocolate-Gorging Holiday!
I love how blogs can evolve in design and format.
I love playing with layouts and graphics, only I know that too much change can just be irritating to readers. However, I've updated the background on this blog, for seasonal purposes. Also, Little B was watching me in the Layout mode of this blog, and she squealed at all the background options that popped up. She wanted to see the "ducks". She literally said "I want to see Ducks!!" and laughed in delight. I admit that Little B is the Boss of me, so of course I obliged. The background image is now of "Ducks!"
In any case, Easter is arriving, and I'm somewhat happy to say that Little B will not be partaking in this chocolate-gorging season/holiday. We don't even need to limit her consumption; Little B simply doesn't like chocolate.

Chocolate-Rejection Examples
- Little B has, on more than one occasion, licked a spoonful of chocolate ice-cream, and said "I don't like it". She asked for Vanilla.
- She rejects Chocolate Chip Cookies, or any Chocolate-type cookies - although I think that's due to her being unfamiliar with chocolate chips.
- She rejects Chocolate Cake. She's tried Chocolate Cake, but then spits it out saying "I don't like it".
- Today, she took a nice big bite of a brownie, chewed on it, and promptly spit it out. She said "I don't like it." (I don't like it, is her favourite rejection phrase).
