Our local libraries are infested with bed bugs!! Yes, I call it an infestation, my words, and not a "true" infestation like how pest control folks call it... But there have been a few reports and sightings of these icky things, enough to make ME call it an infestation. How wide-spread is it really?? How many bed bugs were found?? These creepy crawlies are hiding out in the spines of books, on shelves, in nooks and crannies (of which there are many in library buildings)... They will crawl into your book bag, your purse, the cuff of your pants... you will pick them up when they are hiding out in a cozy book... They do not discriminate and they are nasty creatures that are difficult to get rid of, once they have settled into your home. So yes, I'm probably blowing things out of proportion... it's not really an infestation... there have been a few reports of bed bugs in a few libraries... These are a bit of panicky thoughts from myself. But really, I would prefer to be paranoid about these things, than be blissfully ignorant. They breed quickly, and all it takes is two!
I'll be staying away from libraries for a long time. I'll be safely putting my purses, bags, etc up on countertops and tables, in public settings (even at my workplace)...
I swore that last week, I saw a bed bug crawling on the floor of the washroom at work... it was a bug I've never seen before, beetle-like, and it was alone. We have Yoga days here, at work, and I bet that it had crawled out of someone's bag while they were changing... I never saw the bug again, and I hope it fell into the drain on the floor, or that someone stepped on it. I left it alone, because bugs seriously creep me out enough that I will run the other direction. But next time, if I see something like that again, it will meet the bottom of my shoe. Those nasty things don't deserve any mercy, because honestly, who wants even ONE single bed bug in your home?? No one!!
