Boots have a purpose, whether they are cowboy boots or winter boots.
In the city, they are accessories.
I've fallen into the boot trap. I recently bought a pair of cowgirl boots, suede with flowers embroidered on them. Purpose? For fashion. For style. These are the type of boots where you tuck your jeans into them. Hence, why you end up looking like a cowgirl or cowboy.
Now I'm no brainiac, but I'm sure those in the interior who ranch and farm do not wear pretty embroidered suede boots. There's too much mud, and rain, and snow for anyone to wear anything so pretty. Instead, I'm guessing that they wear leather boots, plain and simple. I'm guessing that their winter boots are fur-lined on the inside, and none of this fur-stuff on the outside of the boot, and of course never baby-blue or baby-pink boots.
We are rugged-wannabes in the city. We want to look the part, but not live the part. I grew up in Smalltown BC, and know what boots are for. You tramp in the mud with them, and you work in them. You walk in the snow and play in the rain. And yet somehow I've fallen into the City Boot Trap.
It all started 2 years ago when I bought my first pair of leather black boots. They're very sleek and go well with skirts. And now, this year, I bought a pair of cowgirl wannabe boots for city wear. They also go well with skirts and jeans.
I know, I'm a hypocrite. But because it's a trap I know I've fallen into, perhaps for the next few years, I won't fall into it again (or as often).
