Opinions etc.

The nature of blogs:
I wonder... do people truly care what you write in a blog? I mean strangers in your life, and possibly even friends?? You are meant to write about your days and experiences, I suppose, like what you would do in a diary. I'd like to think that I use my blog more for writing op-ed pieces than anything; I'm not that open about my personal life to be writing about my friends and love-life, etc.. Being ambiguous and distant is a trait of my personality, I guess.

Movies:
Movies that I've watched in the past few months:

  • Jarhead - A moving and dramatic movie!!
  • Pride and Prejudice (2005) - the movie was okay... It was difficult for me to buy into Keira Knightley's performance as Elizabeth Bennett. The BBC 1995 mini-series, starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle was sooo much better - dialogue, story, and performance.
  • The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe - a good movie for kids - somehow it reminded me of a kid's version of LOTR - The Witch = Evil Galadriel (they almost look the same too), the 4 siblings as the hobbits (Merry, Pippin, Sam, Frodo). Also, the battle scenes were reminiscent of LOTR too. I'm glad that I wasn't the only one who had this same thought though, as a few of my friends also commented on some of the similarities.
  • Brokeback Mountain - again, excellent performances by Jake Gyllenhal and Heath Ledger. I'm so suprised at the results that Ang Lee was able to put together!
The common elements that I love in a good movie are:
Great story/writing/dialogue
Excellent performances
The art of cinematography
Really good editing!

Some movies I'd like to see for the future (either renting or in the theatres)
March of the Penguins
A History of Violence
King Kong
Match Point
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada
Transamerica
Fun with Dick and Jane

Undecided:
Breakfast on Pluto
Syriana

SOME of my favourite people to watch for are:
Orlando Bloom , Johnny Depp, Edward Norton, Jim Carrey, Bill Murray, Steve Buscemi, Barry Pepper, Hugh Laurie, Colin Firth, Scarlett Johansson, Kate Winslet, Claire Danes, Helena Bonham Carter, Sigourney Weaver, Julianne Moore, Tim Burton, Ridley Scott
