More Conservative Politics

"Harper has promised to get tough on the softwood lumber dispute, while limiting anti-American rhetoric. He has also said he'll reconsider Canada's position on the Kyoto accord limiting greenhouse gases and the decision not to participate in Bush's missile defence plan. The White House is also eager to see Harper follow through on promises to increase military spending and intelligence capabilities. "

Okay, so yay on getting tough on the softwood lumber dispute, but seriously, what can Harper do?? It won't be solved within his 18 month mandate (I say 18 months because that's the average life-span of a minority gov't in Canada). This is a dispute that's been going on for OVER A DECADE! 18 months of Harper-talk won't solve anything - most of it is in the hands of international courts anyway!

Reconsidering Canada's position on the Kyoto accord??? WTF??? Why??? "The EARTH is DYING, senator!" Seriously, greenhouse gas emissions are affecting the planet in massive ways! Increased temperature in the Earth's atmosphere, melting icebergs - this is killing and endangering animals, killing and endangering humans. Pollution related deaths are ever-increasing - allergies, asthma, poisoning (yes, like LEAD Poisoning in the blood stream, or MERCURY POISONING by eating too much contaminated TUNA!). The weather is NOT NORMAL ANYMORE! Some people think that 1 degree won't make a difference, but ONE DEGREE is the difference between rain and snow! And what's the average snow day in Vancouver now?? Two?? Why are people happy that it only snows TWO days of the year??? That's NOT NORMAL!! AND a 1 degree difference over a decade will dramatically change the face of the planet!! What's the cost of LIVING vs the cost of a healthy planet?? It should be PRICELESS, shouldn't it???

And participating in the Missile Defence Plan??? Show me a bullet that can hit a bullet, and I'll buy into the missile defence plan. Missiles CANNOT hit missiles out of the sky. The success rate of a missile hitting a missile is below 50%, and some of the anti-missile missiles will explode even before a collision!! What a WASTE of millions of dollars!!! Oh, and here's a question, WHERE ARE THE MISSILES GONNA COME FROM?? Canada?? Mexico?? Those are the ONLY neighbours that the US has, and we have no feud with the US, aside from differing opinions on international politics. I know, I know, they are worried about terrorists in either Canada or Mexico aiming a missile into the sky. Well then perhaps, they should re-direct all that money from the Missile Defence Plan to more Intelligence and Enforcement related agencies to stop the terrorists from BUYING the missile in the first place!! Oh wait, they are also worried about missiles being launched from the ocean. Well then the US should spend money on building more subs and launching them along the entire Pacific and Atlantic Coast to protect the continent from sea-borne launches. I guess technically missiles can be launched from another continent and can fly through the air to US soil over thousands of kilometres. I think it would be cheaper to send a remote operated plane and crash that into the missile, than aiming a missile to hit the missile. Wouldn't that be SOOOO much easier, and take less time and money? Aside from the Cuban Missile Crisis (one time in the entire history of the US), there has been no other missile threat from ANYWHERE against the US!

Oh yea, and back to limiting anti-American rhetoric. Well Harper may be able to control his Cabinet but not the Canadian public or press. If I want to say that Bush is an ASS, then I'll say so. Better yet, Harper is an ASS too. I am stating an opinion and I have a right to express myself. Don't limit my right to free speech.

I do have one good thing to say about Harper though - increasing spending on military and intelligence. Finally, the Canadian Army will have semi-decent equipment. I hope part of your plan will be to recruit more people, and to TRAIN THEM PROPERLY, as there is an incredible lack of course offerings and training, due to a shortage of either instructors, money, or soldiers!

18 months and I hope there will be another election. I can't wait to cast my ballot again.
