2009 Bluesy Start

I slept through the ringing of the new year.
But many were more energetic and happy for 2009. I was just sleepy.

There is a new US President, talks of stimulus packages, and a new tax season! Oh fun!

I have been pessimistic and feeling down through the holidays and didn't feel like blogging much. I am still feeling somewhat the same... a little trepid about the future as I watch my savings drop bit by bit, and as I wonder what will still be affordable for us, middle class folks.

I think things will turn around, but patience and some optimism is required.

I am hoping to make self-improvements for myself... these aren't resolutions, but goals for this year and years to come. I feel that I have grown more realistic about life... or is it pessimistic? In any case, this feeling of reality hitting is making me a bit depressed and irritable.

I may eventually drop this blog and turn it into a creative project... we will see though. For now it will remain my sounding board.

While I was away...

Obama is now president!! Wow! I think this is amazing news, and it's funny and fun that the town of Obama in Japan celebrated his win!

I'm not sure how this will change but US needs a change no matter what.

Yaaaay! :D

Palin's Pretty Face, Harper's Pretty Hair

US Editorial
Seriously, I can't believe what a pretty face can do for an old-man's political career. There is so much buzz about her and with her. She gets more air-time than old-man McCain, these days. It's sad to think that her pretty face and gender may actually (and probably has) won over many votes already. US politics is actually turning my stomach these days. The reason the candidates get attention are for reasons other than their political plans. I don't know what to think, these days.

The Canadian Editorial
This is such a petty thing to say but... can't Harper do something different with his hair? It's always the same... and exactly in the same place. In any case, the polls say that Conservatives are ahead, which frankly I'm not surprised. I haven't seen much of the Liberal campaign and they seem to be lacking that oomph that is needed to catch the public's attention. I'm still an undecided voter at this point. And I probably will decide during the week of the actual election day... or something.

Economic Woes
Oh Woe is the US. And dire warnings and foretelling of the times for Canada, as 40% of our GDP goes to the US.

Hurry Away, Hurricane! (Double Whammy)
Many folks in the hurricane flood paths have been very lucky... their homes and lives relatively untouched. But so many others have been distressed and affected... people with no electricity for weeks. People losing all their possessions. I sincerely hope none of those folks affected, had any stocks. And no I'm not trying to be funny this time... I really do hope that those people affected DO have savings or something to fall back on... other than insurance money for repairs and lost possessions.

Geez, what a crap week.

keeping up with politics

Keeping up with politics is difficult...Let's see...

  • US 3.1 trillion budget.... Ummm... okay.... What else can anyone say about that except... are you serious??? O.O
  • Canadians in Afghanistan... will it lead to an election??
  • Obama? Clinton?? Does it matter? Hmmm... the very first black president... or the very first woman president of the US. That's a tough one!
And yea... I just remembered an election promise from our very own Conservative gov't... Building a military base in BC. I thought that was a good idea because if there ever was an emergency... say wild forest fires... major flooding... or, oh say... an earthquake... the closest military help (other than from our reserve force or navy) would be all the way from... Calgary!! And what good will a navy do during forest fires in the land-locked interior?? *sigh* This promise received mixed reviews from the public, but I thought it would've been awesome if the Conservatives followed through with this promise.

Now I know why I stopped paying attention to politicians...
