A first for me!
I've taken the scales off a fish before, but I've never gutted one. I did a semi-decent job I think. At least, I don't think my husband would mind how it was done, so long as I didn't cut myself or stab myself with the knife (which I'm clumsily known to do from time to time). The only thing I couldn't truly figure out was how to cut the gills off, so I decided to just chop off the head. I probably took off more meat than necessary when chopping off the head, but oh well. It was my first time.
I was actually following instructions from this website: http://flyguys.net/blog/fishing-information/how-to-clean-a-fish. Quite helpful, especially with the pictures.
So what type of fish are we eating tonight? Milkfish, which I have no idea what it really is... it's a white fish, apparently, and I'm baking it using a Filipino recipe. Wrapped in tinfoil, with soy sauce, ginger, onion.... and I forgot what else - baked in the oven. I actually didn't have all the ingredients so I modified it and added whatever I had, or whatever substitutes I thought would work. I hope it tastes decent with all my modifications. If it doesn't, oh well. That's what leftover chicken and canned beans are for, hehe.
