Oh Whoa is Beef

With all these beef recalls, and expanded recalls occurring within the last few weeks, our little family has decided to just not consume (or purchase) beef for a short little while.  This isn't such a difficult feat to accomplish since we eat beef approximately once a month anyway, but it is a little disappointing.  We've had to throw out our Costco-purchased ground beef due to the recall, and we've decided to no longer purchase beef at any grocery market for a little while.  With my sensitive stomach and reduced immune system, it's definitely better to play it safe when it comes to food poisoning.

In any case, here is a complete list of the recalled products, for anybody looking for more details:

And here is a list of recalled XL food products, listed by store/chain:

I advise you to check with CFIA every few days (if you are really concerned), since it seems there is a constant expansion of the recall as the investigation continues.

Hmmm, my list of "what not to eat" keeps growing as this pregnancy continues on...

Pie Time!

With the coming of Fall, and the fresh harvest of local apples and squashes and pumpkins, I am looking forward to Pie Season.  Yep, Pie Season.  Apple pies, and pumpkin pies, to be more specific.  Who doesn't enjoy a nice slice of warm pie with either a scoop of ice-cream or dollop of fresh whipping cream???  Mmmmm, so tasty.

This entire pregnancy, I've been VERY good (in my opinion) with my diet.  I haven't indulged  in too many sweets or desserts, my caffeine intake equals only one small mug of tea in the mornings, and recently due to my shrinking stomach (as a result of my growing baby and uterus), my meals have become smaller, and I now eat less during my meals (although I eat more frequently).  I am going to be making an exception with Pie Time.

We currently have a frozen apple pie in our deep freezer.  I've been eyeing it lately, waiting for the right moment to suggest that we defrost that tasty-sucker so that it can sit satisfactorily at the bottom of my stomach.  My next plan of action would be to hit the grocery market to either buy ingredients to make my own fresh pumpkin pie, OR to buy store-bought pie which most likely would taste better than home-made (since I've never made pumpkin pie before).

Mmmm, I'm getting hungry thinking about pie.  Good thing it's almost dinner-time!
