Belly Rub

Many pregnant women probably have had someone they know come up to them and rub their hands on their belly, without having been asked first.  This happened to me today, and it was the first time it happened during the life of this pregnancy.  I am approximately 6.5 months pregnant.

First of all, just because I have a huge belly does not mean an invitation for it to be rubbed.  I am not a magic genie and I can't grant you 3 wishes.  Secondly, your unwanted hands touching me is a bit invasive and creepy.  I don't like being touched, even though it was well-meaning.  Please don't invade my personal space.

My reaction was a fail though, as I reacted with an uncomfortable smile.  I'm not even sure that next time I'll react differently, but perhaps I'll be a bit more wary or protective of my personal space.  This has happened only once, though, and it was with someone whom I rarely see, and with someone from an older generation. This has me wondering, whether this type of interaction (unwanted belly-rubbing) is a generational thing, or just something that randomly occurs with anybody.

Ah well, just another something for me to blog about.  Just a small blemish in an otherwise great weekend with the family!
