Back from Banff yesterday afternoon. LOOOONG bus ride, but FUN trip!
Did a lot of hiking - and too bad my co-worker and I didn't have more time because I would've liked to hike some more. And too bad didn't have a car - I would've liked to visit Lake Minnewanka which was a bit too far to hike to.
One of our hikes had us hiking the road up to Sulphur Mountain to the gondolas, which was a distance of over 4 km. We also hiked from town to the opposite side of Sulphur Mountain to see the cave and basin, and also hiked along the Bow River.
Day 2 had us hiking about 5km to see the hoodoos. That was a very peaceful walk. Both days of hiking had us walking up-hill at times which meant we were huffing and puffing a bit - the elevation of Banff hindered us too - the higher elevation makes excercising in Banff a little more difficult.
Lots of good food - disappointed in the steak at a particular restaurant, but the burgers were super yummy. At most of the restaurants the burgers are all hand-made, so that was a treat. On Monday we had a turkey dinner special at the restaurant attached to the hotel. Very good price - lots of turkey - we left feeling rather bloated and full and we could barely move - good thing it was our last night. We just went back to the hotel room to watch tv, pack up our things and take it slowly. We caught the 12:55am bus that night to Vancouver - so forced ourselves to stay awake, so that we would be super-tired on the bus so we could sleep (which sort of worked). It was actually a 14 hour bus-ride (I thought it was 13hrs). Next time I will make it a longer trip and take the car. Easier for the body to handle... And for the mind... as soon as we got to Hope, I was just counting the kilometres back to the Vancouver depot. It was especially brutal when the bus stopped at Abbotsford, Langley, and then Coquitlam... I was so happy as soon as we entered Vancouver city limits - and then counting the blocks until the bus reached the terminal!
Highlights of the trip - seeing wild mountain goats (2!), a herd of deer, hiking in the woods, the mountain scenery, and lots of eating!!
I'd like to do another vacation where hiking is involved - I like doing some outdoorsy stuff in different places.
