Beowulf

Who oh why is there gonna be another Beowulf movie??

Beowulf in 1999
Beowulf and Grendel in 2006
Beowulf in 2007 (in post-production)

That's a LOT of Beowulf movies.

I wish Hollywood would find something original to do. Or rip off another movie! Seriously, 3 Beowulf movies in 8 years??

The first one (1999, USA) was AWFUL. Don't bother watching it. It's not even worth renting it, unless there's some kind of Mystery Science Theatre commentary, but even then, that's stretching it! It was just a plain waste of time and energy.

2006 was good - I watched it last night - an Icelandic and Canadian production.

2007 Beowulf - Anthony Hopkins as King Hrothgar?? Angelina Jolie as the voice of the mother?? And John Malkovich?? Okay. Already, too much star power. Are they over-compensating for something with all these names?

Hollywood writers need to come up with something DIFFERENT and NEW!! Theatre attendance is suffering because there are no original ideas anymore. Production companies rely too much on star power to draw in the crowds. Production companies should work on story-lines instead of worrying about getting big-name stars. Sure it helps, but I think a lot of us theatre-goers have been bored for a very long time, by what's been put out there for us. A big-budget film doesn't always mean a good rate of return.

Hollywood makes movies about anything and everything. The remake crappy movies, shitty tv shows and soon to be probably "reality movies" trust me this will happen. As for the movie industry I heard a rumor where they were going to release the movie along with the DVD and Pay Per View all at the same time maybe by 2008. I am not sure why but maybe it is the fact that a movies profit comes mostly from DVD sales and rentals (60% est). Honestly movies mostly do suck cuz' they are catered to young kids(who actually go to the damn things) and they have no taste in what is decent.
