So most of you know that I'm afraid of going to the dentist. I usually tense up as soon as the dentist starts working on my teeth. I have nothing against dentistry as a profession, nor do I have anything against dentists personally. I like my dentist - he's a nice guy and he's been my dentist ever since my family moved to Vancouver. I also like that nice clean feeling after the dentist is done, however...
My first memory of going to the dentist as a kid, was sitting in the chair, and seeing all these strange instruments, and hearing the drill. How awful. I remember seeing a big needle and the dentist asked me to look away, and he injected my cheek (or someplace in my mouth) to numb me so a cavity could be filled. I did not like that experience. And so, ever since, going to the dentist has made me uncomfortable, and I think after watching Dr. Giggles, I get extremely nervous in that chair. I think even going to the orthodontist is better than the dentist, because even though orthodontists can identify cavities, they can't do anything about them! heehee.
This week, I finally went to the dentist and discovered how sensitive my teeth can really be. I have one tooth that is incredibly sensitive. The dentist asked if I had braces before, and I said yes. Apparently braces can abrade the surface of your tooth, thus exposing the root and causing sensitivity. Also, accumulation of plaque can also make your teeth porous (by decalcifying it), and thus making your teeth sensitive.
I am now increasing my calcium intake (I'm not very good at regulating my milk-drinking, nor calcium pill popping but now I am!). Porous teeth??? Egad!! How scary!!! I want healthy teeth! Oh well. My dentist "desensitized" my tooth by putting some kind of liquid application on it. I'm not sure of what it does, exactly, but he said it works "most of the time."
Hopefully the sensitivity will go away, eventually. I'm not happy with the prospect of having that one sensitive tooth for the rest of my life...

Now to offend some more religous people. Ah just kidding I did enough damage with the last commentary. C'mon Winnie going to the dentist is sexy. I mean a man in a silky white coat asks you to open your mouth and he shoves in various objects while you are strapped to a chair... wait I just found out it's not that way for all people ahhhhh my dentist is a freak. Well he did run for the conservative party in 2004 so that explains it. Yeah nothing worse for me when my dentist picks at my gums, and then when they start to bleed, he says that they are senstive. Geez let me stab at your gums, or nuts for that matter, with a sharp object and see if you dont start bleeding.. idiot. Then after all the picking he flosses my teeth so hard and violently that it feels like he is flossing my brain, and says the magic words again, "your teeth are sensitive, are you flossing?" Pisses me off. Though if you like to torture people for a living this is a hell of a way to do it and legal too. da trash is out
I think we've established from before that we have the same dentist, so I know what you mean about the gums! I make it a point to whine and complain a bit when I'm in his chair so he's more careful, LOL. And after this sensitive tooth thing he's doubly careful, although he mentioned that if it gets really bad the only other solution is a root canal! EGADS! (whimper)
NOOO! Not a root canal!!! *cry*
I haven't been to the dentist in awhile... I'm afraid....
Your twin.
