I saw The Woodsman last weekend. It was a creepy yet interesting story.
The title of the movie alludes to the story of Little Red Riding Hood in which a woodsman comes across the wolf after he has eaten both the grandmother and Little Red Riding Hood. The woodsman cuts open the wolf's stomach and out jumps both grandma and Red Riding Hood, alive and whole. Stones are placed into the wolf's stomach and eventually the wolf collapses and dies.
The woodsman in this story is not such a hero that he can be praised or admired. In fact, he is both the wolf and the woodsman at the same time. He is a pedophile who is trying to become "normal" again, fighting his urges. The woodsman comes out in the end, but not before the audience sees his true wolf form. It was an unsuccessful seduction but one that enticed a huge gasp from an audience member. This movie is not one for the mainstream crowd, but for those who are interested in taking a glimpse into darker parts of the human mind.
